Welcome to the Fringe Theatre Arts Barns! A home for more than 500 events beyond the 11 days of the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival, this is your space to meet and create.

Located in the heart of Old Strathcona, key landmarks of the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival are the Fringe Theatre Arts Barns and ATB Park (known as Wilbert McIntyre Park or Gazebo Park).

Coming For A Show?

Whether this is your first Fringe show or your fiftieth – you belong here.

When to Arrive

We recommend arriving 20-30 minutes early so you can grab a drink, choose your seat, and settle in.

  • Lobby and bar are open before the performance;
  • Doors to the theatre open shortly before showtime;
  • The performance will begin promptly;
  • If you’re running late, don’t stress – our front of house team will do their best to get you in at an appropriate break.

Fringe Vibes

Fringe is not fancy. Fringe is not exclusive. Fringe is definitely for you.

  • Wear jeans. Wear sequins. Come straight from work. Come as you are.
  • We clap loudly. We laugh loudly. We cheer for Artists.
  • It’s relaxed, welcoming, and community-driven. And we love that!

Bar & Lobby

Our lobby bar is open before the show! You’re welcome to grab a drink and bring it with you into the theatre. We serve:

  • Sea Change Brewing Co. beer
  • Shiddy’s Distilling cocktails
  • Village Brewery cider
  • Wine
  • Annex Soda, pop and non-alcoholic beer

Tickets

No need to print your ticket – your phone works perfectly. You can show the usher your email or the e-ticket in your Google or Apple wallet for them to scan at the door.

Seating

Seating is general admission – you choose where to sit when you arrive. There isn’t a bad seat in the house!

Re-entry is allowed during Fringe Season shows! If you need to leave during the performance, you can come back into the theatre quietly.

Wheelchair Stall Info

All theatres in the Fringe Theatre Arts Barns are wheelchair accessible. To secure a wheelchair stall, please visit the Box Office in person, call 780-409-1910 or e-mail us at boxoffice@fringetheatre.ca.

Accessible Performances

We strive to offer accessible performances in the Fringe Theatre Season. Offerings vary by show but may include accessible features like: captioning, sign language interpretation, touch tours, and/or audio described performances. Please sign up for Fringe Fan Club and stay tuned to Fringe Theatre social media for details on accessible performances. Accessibility details will be added to our ticketing site as they are confirmed – please check back often!

Certified Service Dogs

In accordance with Alberta legislation, certified service dogs can go anywhere their humans go. We ask that you keep your non-certified pets at home.

Hearing Assistance

Our main box office and our three theatres in the Fringe Theatre Arts Barns are equipped with hearing loops (T-Coil Loops) for patrons with hearing loss. These loops transmit directly to a hearing aid or cochlear implant electromagnetically, with no extra equipment. To use the system:

  1. Ask your hearing aid provider to activate your t-coil function.
  2. When you arrive at the theatre, switch your hearing aid to your t-coil function and adjust the volume as needed.

Those without hearing aids can also utilize a portable headset receiver. Units are available to rent for free by emailing box office boxoffice@fringetheatre.ca and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Relaxed Performances

Relaxed performances are specifically supported to be sensitive to patrons who might benefit from a more relaxed environment, including those with a wide range of social, sensory, or educational needs. A minimum of two performances for every show in the Fringe Theatre Season are designated as relaxed performances. All relaxed performance tickets are 100% Offer What You Will.

Venue Accessibility Specifications

All public spaces in the Fringe Theatre Arts Barns is wheelchair accessible. This includes the lobby, box office, washrooms, cafe, studios, and theatres.

During the season, there is parking near the main lobby entrance on 84 Avenue or in the parking lot immediately north of the building next to Knox Church. During Festival, the Fringe Theatre Arts Barns is in the centre of the Festival Grounds, and thus there is no available parking nearby.

The Fringe Theatre Arts barns are close to bus routes 004, 008, 404, or 701. Please note stops serviced by these routes are 1-3 blocks away from the Arts Barns.

The DATS drop off point is at 84 Avenue in front of the Fringe lobby.

  • Box office and theatre are located through the main entrance of the Fringe Theatre Arts Barns.
  • Area around Fringe Theatre Arts Barns is quite flat.
  • No stairs or ramps to get into the building or the theatre.
  • Doors into Fringe Theatre Arts Barns are 34” wide.
  • Entrance to Westbury Theatre is 32” wide.
  • Accessible seating is available on either side of the front row.
  • Gendered washrooms are available down the hall of the main lobby on the northeast side of the theatre.
  • Washrooms are accessible and have clearance for a 32”w x 32”h chair.
  • The theatre is air conditioned.
  • Chairs: the chairs have arms and some padding. Chair measurements: depth 17.5 inch by 17.5 inches wide, and height (floor to seat): 18.25 inches. Chairs without arms are available on request.
  • Box office and entrance to the theatre is outside and on the north side of the Fringe Theatre Arts Barns.
  • If coming from the west side of the building there are rail tracks on the path to the theatre. There is also a small lip in the concrete in front of the venue. Both should be approached with care.
  • Main entrance to the theatre is accessible, with a 32” width clearance.
  • Reserved accessible seating is available in the front of the risers, or, in some configurations, at 29” high cabaret tables.
  • Gender inclusive washrooms are accessible and have clearance for a 32”w x 32”h chair.
  • Washroom signs have braille.
  • The theatre is air conditioned.
  • Chairs: the chairs have arms and some padding. Chair measurements: depth 17.5 inch by 17.5 inches wide, and height (floor to seat): 18.25 inches.
  • Chairs without arms are available on request.
  • The theatre entrance has a 32” width clearance and a 90 degree turn to get into the theatre.
  • Gender inclusive bathrooms are available just outside Studio Theatre, down the Studio A-B hallway. Bathrooms have a 32” clearance.
  • The theatre is air conditioned.
  • Chairs: the chairs have arms and some padding. Chair measurements: depth 17.5 inch by 17.5 inches wide, and height (floor to seat): 18.25 inches. Chairs without arms are available on request.

Bike or Walk

Bike lock-up is available around Old Strathcona. Be sure to bring your own lock! And please note: Festival activity interrupts regular bike path usage along 83 Avenue. Please be mindful of detour routes during Festival.
