Hello current and future volunteers!
Planning is well underway for the 40th Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival, taking place August 12-22, 2021. As we’re sure you can imagine, the process of organizing a festival is much more complex and challenging this year. We expect the Festival will look very different this year; in fact, it might more closely resemble our very first Fringe Theatre Event in 1982!
If we can host an in-person Festival, we will need the support of our incredible volunteers. Exactly what that support looks like this year is still being determined. Typically, our volunteer family consists of nearly 1,200 people supporting 13 different volunteer teams. We expect our volunteer needs to decrease this year, with some teams being suspended, or changing their duties to support the Festival in new ways.
Volunteer applications are not open yet. Applications will be available later than in previous years. Stay tuned – we predict they will open in late spring or early summer. Before inviting you to volunteer with us, we want to ensure that we can tell you what we’ll expect of you and what you can expect of us. It’s going to take us a little longer than usual to find these answers. Thank you for your support & patience!

Whether you are interested in joining our volunteer team for another year or for the first time, thank you! We felt so much love from our Fringe Family over the past year and hope to see you all soon.

Our Volunteer Program
When you volunteer with us you join an enthusiastic, diverse family united in their love for fringing, theatre, and community.
In a normal year, our Fringe family consists of nearly 1,200 dedicated volunteers who help us accommodate more than 800,000 patrons each year. More than 15% of our volunteers have been volunteering with us for more than 10 years! We even have volunteers who have been serving since our Festival first exploded onto the scene in 1982.
