Fringe Theatre is now recruiting an Executive Director.

We are looking for a passionate leader with experience in theatre and community development to provide organizational leadership, oversight, management, and administration for our non-profit, charitable arts organization in collaboration and partnership with the Artistic Director.
Fringe Theatre cultivates and incubates artists and supports the development of new theatrical work all year long. We promote artistic exploration and creative risk, while actively removing barriers to access in an effort to allow artists at all stages of their career to thrive and learn. We continue to curate a focused audience of arts enthusiasts, while creating an open and welcoming laboratory where new work can be explored and elevated.
The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival continues to be North America’s largest and longest running unjuried and uncensored Fringe Theatre Festival, attracting artists and patrons from across Canada and around the world.
The Fringe Theatre Season, Spotlight Series, Chinook Series, Festival Holdovers and numerous community events offer a variety of presentations, in-house productions, and partnership co-productions for audiences to experience year round.
The ATB Financial Arts Barns play a key role in supporting artists and community members in all stages of their career and is a community hub that offers formal and informal development, conversation, interaction, and resource. A home for our own activities, the Arts Barns also provides critical production and event space for hundreds of artists and companies through our rental program every year.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director works equally alongside the Artistic Director in a “Statement of Cooperation & Shared Vision.”
Areas of Authority
The Executive Director and Artistic Director, as fiduciaries of FTA, hold key leadership positions in the organization. Under the authority of the Board, the Executive Director and Artistic Director assume complete responsibility for carrying out assigned policies and regulations. The Executive Director and Artistic Director, through shared responsibility and collaboration, have the authority to direct the implementation of the organization’s work through its three lines of business (Festival, Theatre Season, ATB Financial Arts Barns) and are responsible for the management of all staff members and volunteers.
The Executive Director and Artistic Director directly, and indirectly through their staff, have accountability to the various stakeholder groups that make up FTA. These groups may include: Board of Directors, Staff, Volunteers, Artists, Industry Peers, Patrons, Funders, Donors, Sponsors, Vendors, Contractors, and various Community groups locally, nationally, and internationally.
The Executive Director:
- Directs the day-to-day business operations of Fringe Theatre Adventures;
- Supports the Artistic Director in achieving the organization’s day-to-day artistic goals;
- With input from the Artistic Director, hires, trains, delegates, supervises, evaluates, and terminates non-artistic department staff and contractors employed by Fringe Theatre;
- Attends and reports at all Board meetings, and is invited to all committee meetings;
- Acts as a consultant to the Board and its committees;
- Assists with the establishment and operation of committees to aid the Board in its activities;
- Treats all confidential FTA matters with the utmost discretion;
- Ensures that FTA is managed in accordance with all legal requirements and within the organization’s bylaws; and
- Ensures that FTA is managed in an ethical manner in all its dealings.
By virtue of their position, the Executive Director and Artistic Director are ex officio at all Board and committee meetings. The Executive Director and Artistic Director attend the meetings, participate, provide and receive reports, but have no vote.

The ideal candidate has a depth of experience in managing and leading non-profit organizations with proven abilities in developing and navigating complex relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Additional experience in the art and theatre industry is considered an asset. All relevant education and experience will be considered.
Compensation and benefits are negotiable and based on education and experience.
Primary place of employment is located at the ATB Arts Barn in the heart of the Old Strathcona Theatre District office, located at 10330 84th Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
