In addition to our season, we support the local theatre community with direct funding toward the development, creation, and production of theatre. These funds apply to stand alone productions during a season, as well as the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival.
Below are the four streams of funding available to artists. An artist may apply and be awarded funding from multiple streams in the same year.
Westbury Family Fringe Theatre Award
This annual award will provide one local artist, group, or company with $25,000 in funding towards the creation of a new work to be presented as part of the Fringe Theatre Spotlight program in the following season
The award is given annually and includes $5,000 cash, a theatre venue for the rehearsal and run of the show, technicians, and more!
This award honours Drs. Robert & Marilyn Westbury, who have provided a lifetime of leadership and generosity towards theatre arts. This award is funded through a legacy endowment, ensuring artist have the resources to create new and exciting theatre for generations to come.

Nordic & Cloutier Family Innovation Award
This annual award will provide one local artist, group, or company with up to $2,500 in funding towards professional development, training, innovation, and/or special project development.
This award is given annually and is awarded as a cash gift. The award honours John Cloutier and his family for their life-long investment towards the well-being of the Edmonton community, and their passion for helping grow and retain the incredible talent of our local artists.
Applications open in March each year.
Fringe Theatre Spotlight Program
Each year we collectively award artists more than $20,000 in resources and space so they can fully explore and execute their creative vision. Two to three companies are selected annually to produce their show at the ATB Financial Arts Barns as part of our program.
The average project receives $7,000 in in-kind support, such as venue, technicians, marketing, and box office.

Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival Lottery
Our Fringe Festival brings more than 250 shows to stages every August. We provide nearly $1 million in support to approximately 130 of those shows each year, an average of $8,000 per show.
As an unjuried and uncensored Festival, support is awarded through an annual lottery. There are a variety of streams for which an artist may choose to apply to take part in the lottery. Indoor lottery winners receive venue, technicians, box office support, marketing, and more! Outdoor lottery winners receive staging, technicians, and marketing.
Applications open in September each year.
