Happy Pride Week, Edmonton! Here at Fringe Theatre, we are proud to support LGBTQ+ communities.

Together with friends and neighbours from Old Strathcona Business Association and the Theatre District we were thrilled to walk in the Pride Parade. Our group included the Varscona Theatre, Nextfest, Northern Light Theatre, CRIPSiE, Walterdale Theatre, Grindstone TheatreCatch the Keys and more.

On Friday morning we picked up a flatbed truck from our friends at Driving Force. In spite of the rain, we successfully spent our afternoon in full decoration mode – building balloon sculptures, bedazzling umbrellas and blowing up a giant unicorn pool floatie.

Bright and early on Saturday morning We Found Love in a Hopeless Place pumped over the speakers while we unfurled the beloved Volunteer Banner (made up of many years worth of Fringe volunteer t-shirts) and blew up more balloons than we could count.

What a joy it was to see (and hear!) crowds of Edmontonians gathered bright and early, bedecked in their boldest and brightest to celebrate Pride.

We at Fringe Theatre are proud to support sexual and gender minorities, issues, and concerns. Safe spaces for self expression fuel artistic creativity and unite diverse communities.  There are endless opportunities to learn about one another and our unique journeys.

Just recently our staff participated in a Safe Spaces Workshop were we learned about pronouns and anti-oppression. This workshop was presented by the Institute for Sexual Minority Studies & Services at the University of Alberta.

Thank you to everyone who is working to build a supportive and inclusive community.  Love is love.
